About ALIPHANT

About ALIPHANT

They can recognize themselves in a mirror.

Elephants can recognize themselves in a mirror, joining only humans, apes and dolphins as animals that possess this kind of self-awareness, researchers now report.

They feet act as shock absorbers, working in any terrain.

The elephant´s foot size is used to judge the overall size of a particular animal, its age, and the number of elephants in a particular group. Its feet play a role in creating holes in which water can collect, for digging up roots from the ground, and for navigating difficult terrain.

They are the largest animals on land.

African elephants are the largest land animals on Earth. They are slightly larger than their Asian cousins and can be identified by their larger ears that look somewhat like the continent of Africa.

Their lives are threatened by poachers who kill them for thier tusks.

Despite a ban on the international trade in ivory, African elephants are still being poached in large numbers. Tens of thousands of elephants are being killed every year for their ivory tusks. The ivory is often carved into ornaments and jewellery
